Gametest

Introduction[edit]

If you want to test new features that you made for your game, you may want to do so in a way that doesn't interfere with your live game. That way, your live game won't break if you have a bug in the new version of your game. The best way to test an online version of your game is to upload the game to one of ROBLOX's game test sites, which are used by ROBLOX staff to test new features of the game. In this tutorial, you will learn how to upload your game to the ROBLOX's, Game Test 1 website.

Setup Your Test Account and ROBLOX Studio[edit]

Before you upload your game, you must take the following steps:

  1. Navigate to http://www.gametest1.robloxlabs.com/ in your web browser.
  2. Create a new account.
  3. Close ROBLOX Studio on your computer if you haven't already.
  4. Go to your profile and click "Edit" on your main place.
  5. Download and install the new Roblox player when prompted.
  6. Roblox Studio should open with your new place.

Note: There are actually 5 game test websites that ROBLOX uses (although gametest1 is the most similar to roblox.com). If you want to try out more experimental features or use a different test site, just put the appropriate number into the site URL and repeat the above steps.

Uploading Your Game[edit]

Now, open the game you want to test in Roblox Studio. Go to File > Publish to ROBLOX as... and select the starter place from your new account. After it is uploaded, you should be able to test it out without worrying about breaking your game on ROBLOX.com!

Important Notes[edit]

When using one of ROBLOX's test sites, it is important to note the following:

  • Some features available on ROBLOX test sites may not and/or will not be available on the main site.
  • Data may be deleted from ROBLOX test sites at any time without warning. Do not store anything important on a ROBLOX test site!
  • Make sure you have a local copy (.rbxl file) of all of your games as a backup to your live and test versions.
