Studio Overview – Home Tab

The Home tab contains basic functions necessary for building and testing your game.


Sections and Tools

The Home tab includes the following sections and tools:


The Clipboard options let you copy, cut, paste, and duplicate instances inside Studio.

Icon Action Description
ST-Paste.png Paste Creates a copy of the copied/cut Instance(s) in the clipboard and pastes them in the selected object.
ST-Copy.png Copy Copies the selected Instance(s) to the clipboard.
ST-Cut.png Cut Copies the selected Instance(s) to the clipboard and deletes the original.
ST-Copy.png Duplicate Immediately copies the selected Instance(s) and parents the copy at the same level as the original.


The Tools section contains tools to manipulate the position, size, and orientation of Parts. It also lets you toggle various options for how parts interact with each other.

Icon Action Description
ST-Select.png Select Allows you to select the current part/model in the Workspace.
ST-Move.png Move Displays three handles which can be dragged to move the current selection along the corresponding X, Y, or Z axis.
ST-Scale.png Scale Displays three handles which can be dragged to resize the current selection along the corresponding X, Y, or Z axis. Only works with BaseParts (Models cannot be scaled as a whole).
ST-Rotate.png Rotate Displays three handles which can be dragged to spin the current selection about the corresponding X, Y, or Z axis.
ST-Collisions.png Collisions Toggles the collisions state. If off, parts can be moved, scaled, or rotated so that they overlap each other. If on, parts cannot be manipulated so that they overlap other parts.
ST-Constraints.png Constraints Toggles whether to “solve” constraints while dragging (Constraints attach two parts together and let you create special behaviors for the parts).
ST-Join.png Join Lets you select how parts will stick together after you manipulate them (if they are touching).


The Insert section contains tools to open the toolbox and insert basic Parts.

Icon Action Description
ST-Toolbox.png Toolbox Toggles the Toolbox window open and closed. This contains all of your Models and Decals, as well as all of the models in Roblox's library.
ST-Part.png Part Inserts a Part into the Workspace. The dropdown lets you select either a Block, Sphere, Wedge, or Cylinder to insert.


The Edit section allows you to change the color, material, and other behavior of parts in the workspace.

Icon Action Description
ST-Material.png Material Changes the Material of the selected Part(s).
ST-Color.png Color Changes the Color of the selected Part(s).
ST-Group.png Group Groups all of the selected parts into a new Model. The dropdown lets you select the Ungroup tool which removes the Model group and allows all of the parts that were within it to be selected individually.
ST-Lock.png Lock Locks a part so that it cannot be manipulated by Studio tools. The dropdown lets you switch to the Unlock All tool which allows you to unlock parts so they can be manipulated again.
ST-Anchor.png Anchor Toggles whether part(s) are Anchored or not. Anchored parts will be locked in place and will not move due to physics while the game is running.


The Terrain section contains tools to create and shape static terrain in your game.

Icon Action Description
ST-Terrain-Generate.png Generate Generates a random landscape based on several configurable parameters.
ST-Terrain-Add.png Add Fills terrain with the selected Material.
ST-Terrain-Paint.png Paint Changes the terrain Material in the selected area.
ST-Terrain-Grow.png Grow Slowly fills in the selected area with terrain.
ST-Terrain-Erode.png Erode Slowly removes terrain from the selected area.
ST-Terrain-Smooth.png Smooth Averages the occupancy in the selected area, making the terrain smoother and less sharp.


The Test menu lets you simulate your game to test it.

Icon Action Description
ST-Play.png Play Starts simulating the game and inserts your character. The dropdown lets you select either Play Here which simulates the game from the point you're currently viewing in the game editor window or Run which will start simulating the game without inserting your character.
ST-Stop.png Stop Stops simulation of the game and resets all Parts and Instances to how they were before Play, Play Here, or Run was pressed.


The Settings section contains the following option:

ST-Game-Settings.png Game Settings Updates settings related to the current game, including options for player avatars and overall game security.

Team Test

The Team Test section provides options to test a game that's being designed with the Team Create feature.

Icon Action Description
ST-Team-Test.png Team Test When creating a place with friends (your team), this button lets you start playing the game.
ST-Exit-Team-Test.png Exit Game Exits out of the team test in progress and returns you to the editing state of the team creation.
