Talk:Change Log archive

This page is to be edited and updated by appointed ROBLOX staff only, who will get the change logs from the devs. Reesemcblox

Hum, I think you forgot the LoadingGui object.

I think it should be organized, not be a huge block of text. Use wikitables.

I'm trying to make a template, but have lots of homework. :D - Quenty (talk • February 2)
My job is to dump the data as soon as possible. Wiki editors can then make it organized as they like. Also, let's start cross-linking text from the change log to the thing that was changed, if we have a page for it. i.e. Wikify it.--Reesemcblox 12:45, 2 February 2012 (EST)
Can I take official responsibility for this? I suggested it and got a petition going. I also like graphical design stuff, so it will look good. :D - Quenty (talk • February 3)
The template looks pretty good. It needs to not have a summary, as the "writing" on this page must be by myself or the devs. Also the website sub-section is not accurate for the client release list. I like the box format, however keep in mind the list should be easy to read through quickly and also easy to copy and paste. When you sort out the bullets replace your template example and we'll take a look. --Reesemcblox 14:21, 3 February 2012 (EST)

Thanks for wikifying and organizing this log. The devs are stoked we're doing this. --Reesemcblox 14:23, 3 February 2012 (EST)

Is there a way for the Contents box to start out in a minimized state when you arrive on the page? Or a way to show just the top level items (Web and Client)? The list is getting really cumbersome, and the links to each release don't seem to work. --Reesemcblox 20:53, 12 April 2012 (EDT)

We technically could do it in a messy way by using the collapsable and the collapsed classes with a wiki table, or you could help us out a little by adding a few lines to MediaWiki:Common.js that would make it possible for us to make things collapsable with a certain class. As for the few lines I mentioned, huh.. ask NXTBoy... --JulienDethurens 21:04, 12 April 2012 (EDT)
Actually, if you're going to continue expanding this page more and more, then perhaps it should all be put on the main website, because your devs would be able to customize it a lot more than we can here (they can use CSS stylesheets and JavaScript, unlike us). The main website also has a faster loading time, while the wiki is often really slow to load because it has low bandwidth. --JulienDethurens 21:15, 12 April 2012 (EDT)
I've wiped something up here using the template here. It's not overly pretty... but I guess it is a start. Maybe another thing we can look at is archiving the page monthly.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 13:54, 5 May 2012 (EDT)
I made the last one. If you want, I can make yours look fairly pretty, and keep the same format. The only change will occur on the template. - Quenty (talk • May 5)
That would be awesome. I just took your template and added to it. If we can make it look half decent that would be ideal. Thanks!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 22:59, 5 May 2012 (EDT)
  • Ok. We're scraping that idea, and just going to stick with a monthly archive. Thanks!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 11:00, 18 May 2012 (EDT)

New Template

I made a new template. :D What do you think? The bullets screw it up a ton.

Do I have permission to change? - Quenty (talk • March 16)
I see no current complaints. I will edit it, and if the admins get mad they can change it back. - Quenty (talk • March 20)
Sure as long as it's still easy for me to add new content and for editors to organize and link-ify it. --Reesemcblox 20:22, 20 March 2012 (EDT)
I've started adding it. I's super easy to edit and add. What we do need is to utilize the summary, name, and version of them. You can name updates - like really big ones. :D - Quenty (talk • March 23)
Hi Quenty, could we get a sub-section for updates to Mobile? It could end up under Client or Web since we have a mobile version of each (out or in development). --Reesemcblox 19:27, 27 September 2012 (CDT)
Yeah, Just noticed this.. er.. like, now, please use talk backs or something on my discussion page. :) - Quenty (talk • February 26)

Archive Transclusions

Is it possible to show logs for the current month and the previous month? Otherwise we'll get issues like right now, where there aren't any logs displayed. --Anaminus 17:19, 5 June 2012 (EDT)

I'm going to have to revert the page back to manual archival. The idea is to make this page as simple to edit for Reesemcblox, and we can't have her lost trying to update it. It isn't hard to do it manually, and we won't have problems like the one Anaminus is talking about. Thanks.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 11:23, 6 June 2012 (EDT)
"The idea is to make this page as simple to edit for Reesemcblox" - That was why I added the edit link.
19:50, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
That's really really hard. We don't have the ParserFunctions extension, so I have no way of subtracting one from the month/year.
19:50, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
I am trying to not put us in a situation where this happens every month but it's difficult. Since I am doing this about 1x week, and I have to wait for approval for each post, it can take a while to get the current month's first update posted. I will work on getting them out more quickly.--Reesemcblox 13:44, 20 July 2012 (EDT)

Linkifying the Change Log

One of the goals of the change log is that it should be inter-linked with the rest of the wiki. We should have a link from items on the change list to existing pages. We are relying on the wiki editors to update the log with links. New pages are not needed unless it's a whole new feature or an obvious gap in the knowledge base. Not every line item needs a link, and repeated topics do not need to be linked over and over - one link per page is sufficient. --Reesemcblox 17:09, 4 September 2012 (CDT)

Introducing Vaiobot to this page

Vaiobot will be adding new updates to this page much more regularly and on-time than I ever did. Please move the old entries off to their own month-pages. We will try to back fill to complete the history of updates, and if we do they'll be added a month at a time so the month-pages can be updated easily. Thanks. --Reesemcblox 00:11, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

I've moved the February and March items to their pages. Also found out that cascading protections don't work for those monthly pages since something's disabled for the main namespace. I doubt it'll be a problem though. Legend26 (talk | contribs) 01:44, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. No, it's not a major issue, our protection doesn't really work as it is supposed to anywhere really.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 21:47, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
